A strong economy is built on the success of small businesses and hardworking families.

  • Reduce taxes and eliminate excessive regulations that hinder business growth.
  • Invest in smart traffic planning, including parking solutions and road redesigns that support commerce.
  • Encourage local entrepreneurship and innovation by cutting bureaucratic red tape.

Restoring Common Sense to Local Government

Restoring Common Sense to Local Government

I reject progressive ideologies that distract from real issues and divide our communities.

  • Focus on fixing roads, ensuring public safety, and keeping taxes low—not pushing political agendas.
  • Eliminate sanctuary city policies that compromise law and order.
  • Ensure that hiring and promotion in local government are based solely on merit and qualifications.

Cutting Government Waste & Reducing Taxes

I believe in a lean, efficient government that serves the people, not itself.

  • Identify and eliminate unnecessary government spending.
  • Implement a surplus investment fund to drive economic growth without raising taxes.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in all government budgets and financial decisions.

Ending Overreach & Restoring Local Control

I will put an end to overreaching regulations that restrict personal freedom and property rights.

  • Eliminate Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) policies that impose city regulations on those who cannot vote for city leaders.
  • Allow communities to vote on whether they want to be part of the city or remain independent.
  • Stop government interference in private property decisions.

Bring Back Brevard — Support the Movement

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Brevard deserves leadership that listens, unites, and acts. With deep roots in our community and decades of service in both construction and the National Guard, I’m stepping up to serve as your next mayor — but I can’t do it alone.

Running a grassroots campaign takes resources. Your donation — whether $10 or $100 — helps us reach voters, share our vision, and bring fresh energy to Brevard’s future. Every dollar goes toward building a city that values transparency, opportunity, and hometown pride.

If you believe it's time to Bring Back Brevard, please consider contributing today.

Thank you for your support — let’s build something great, together.

With gratitude,
Chris Wiener
Candidate for Mayor of Brevard, NC

Role of the Mayor in Brevard

In Brevard, North Carolina, the mayor's role is primarily ceremonial and administrative, with limited executive authority. Brevard operates under a council-manager form of government, which means the city manager handles most day-to-day administrative duties. Here’s a breakdown of the mayor’s key responsibilities:

1. Presiding Over Meetings

  • The mayor chairs City Council meetings but does not vote, except to break a tie.
  • Ensures meetings are conducted in an orderly fashion and in accordance with North Carolina laws.

2. Representing the City

  • Serves as the official representative of Brevard at public events, meetings, and ceremonial functions.
  • Acts as the face of the city when dealing with local organizations, other governments, and the public.

3. Agenda and Policy Influence

  • Works with the City Manager and City Council to set meeting agendas and shape policy priorities, but cannot unilaterally pass laws or enforce policies.

4. Proclamations and Community Leadership

  • Issues proclamations and encourages civic engagement.
  • Promotes community initiatives and may help facilitate partnerships or grants.

5. Liaison Role

  • Acts as a liaison between citizens and government, often fielding public concerns and ensuring they’re directed to the appropriate city department or official.

In essence, the mayor of Brevard is a lead ambassador and meeting facilitator, while the City Council holds legislative power and the City Manager oversees administration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us if you cannot find an answer to your question.  As questions come in, I will be updating the FAQ below.

The City of Brevard Police Department is now operating with only two patrol officers per shift, and the strain is so great that outsourcing the night shift to the Sheriff’s Office is being seriously considered. That should concern every resident who values local control, officer safety, and a responsive police presence.

Having served seven years in the U.S. Army and led in the business world for over two decades, I can tell you from experience: when teams fall apart, it’s rarely just about pay. It’s always about leadership.

We need to ask ourselves hard questions: Are we creating a culture where our officers feel respected, supported, and proud to serve? Do they know we have their backs? Have we listened to their concerns—not just about salary, but about staffing, support, safety, and scheduling?

Effective leadership requires two things: understanding people’s pain points and setting reasonable expectations. Our police officers are not just employees—they are guardians of our community. We owe them a clear vision, consistent support, and leadership that earns their trust.

If we want to rebuild and retain a strong department, we must move beyond short-term fixes. Outsourcing the night shift might patch the hole for now, but it won’t solve the leadership deficit that’s driving the attrition. It’s time to lead from the front—just like we expect our officers to do every day.

“Protecting Brevard’s Youth and Community Health from Unregulated Psychoactive Substances”

As mayor, I will prioritize the safety, health, and moral clarity of our community—especially for our children and young adults. Over the past several years, gas stations and smoke shops in Brevard have begun selling unregulated substances like kratom, Delta-8 THC, synthetic cannabinoids, tianeptine, and other lab-made drugs under the guise of “wellness supplements” or “herbal relief.”

These substances are widely available, frequently untested, and often addictive. Many are marketed to minors and sold just steps from schools and parks.

While the federal and state governments are still debating how to handle these products, we don’t have to wait. Under the authority granted to us by the North Carolina General Statutes, we have both the legal right and the moral obligation to act.

As your next mayor, I will champion an ordinance that:

  • Immediately bans the sale of kratom and related substances to anyone under 21.
  • Strictly regulates how these products are displayed, stored, and advertised.
  • Phases out the sale of these substances entirely within city limits over a 12-month period.

This is not about criminalizing personal behavior. It’s about saying that Brevard will not be a dumping ground for addictive, untested products. We will lead with integrity and protect our community. And we will give businesses time to transition, with fairness and clear guidance.

Brevard can be a model city—one that stands up for its values and puts the health of its families first.
